Hello!

I'm Emma, the photographer, admin, basically everything behind Emma Marshall Photography,  and alongside me is my fiancé, Teariki. He is my second photographer, my calm in the chaos, and the proud recipient of Employee of the Month at Emma Marshall Photography every single month for the past six years. A prestigious title that he takes very seriously.

I grew up on Waiheke Island and after a few years of travelling and living off the island, I’ve ended up right back where I feel most at home. This place has shaped who I am and how I see the world, and it inspires pretty much everything I do with my camera.

I’ve loved photography since I was a kid with my little point and shoot in Year 7. Life took me on a bit of a journey after that. I became a flight attendant at nineteen, saw some amazing places, met even more amazing people, and collected a whole lot of stories along the way. When the pandemic hit, I lost my job and had a moment of what now. Turns out the answer was the thing I always loved, so I picked up my camera and never looked back.

I started out photographing families and newborns, then one day I photographed a wedding for a couple I adore and something just clicked. Now weddings are my favourite thing to capture. I love the real moments, the fun, the emotion, the tiny in-between bits that you don’t even realise are happening.  I have a very relaxed approach when it comes to the way I work. I don't dictate or drag you away for hours on end for portraits (unless you want to!). I prefer to blend into the background and capture the moments as they happen, rather than try to stage a moment or get you to repeat something over and over to get the shot.

These days Teariki and I are also planning our own wedding, so I get the excitement and the nerves and the endless lists. Speaking of him, he is genuinely the best sidekick I could ask for. Growing up in the beautiful Rarotonga, he and I share something in common, growing up on a small island, spending countless days at the beach and enjoying that 'Island Life' (although my Island is a bit colder than his!). Together, we share two for babies (Honey and Vanilla), who are the loves of our lives. Both our parents aren't very impressed with the fact that their grandchildren have four legs instead of two!

While I feel this shouldn't have to be said, I want you all to know that I am happy to work with you regardless of your race, gender, sexual orientation, beliefs, size, height, or anything else. As long as you're a cool person, I’m more than happy to work with you and will not treat you any differently. Love comes in many shapes, colours, and forms, and I am here to capture it no matter who you are.

Emma xx
